Variable frequency drives (VFD) are very popular for controlling hoist, trolley, and bridge motors. VFD’s can be programmed for a wide variety of applications to make the use of a bridge crane easier and safer. VFD’s offer more versatility for speed and acceleration characteristics than contractor controls. Contactors are still available on smaller hoists.
